Roberto Burioni unleashed against anti-vax. The well-known virologist from the San Raffaele University of Milan has returned to the forefront on his social media accounts to harshly criticize those who are most reluctant to undergo the anti-Covid vaccine. The professor cannot hold back, and through tweets, he compares anti-vax to mice. “I propose a collection to pay anti-vax Netflix subscriptions for when they will be under house arrest from August 5, locked up at home like mice,” reads the official profile. A tweet that arrived a few hours after Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s press conference but which is raising quite a bit of controversy on social media. Some users responded, criticizing Burioni for the choice of tone used: “I understand the frustration that comes from vulgar daily attacks, but responding with these tones, for someone who has meritoriously chosen to do outreach, is highly counterproductive and harmful.” But among the various comments on the tweet, there are those who do not hold back: “Painful as well as counterproductive. This is no time for self-satisfaction”, “I am not so convinced that this type of message works or helps anyone”, echoes another user.
But it doesn’t end there, because in another tweet Burioni himself commented on the anti-Green Pass protest organized in Turin on the evening of Thursday, July 22. It is a retweet of a newspaper article, the comment reads: “Very intelligent idea: everyone together shouting, all unvaccinated, close together and without masks. They don’t want to be vaccinated, but they will obtain immunity (and the green pass) through the disease. I feel sorry for the innocents who will infect, but nothing can be done”. And finally, the inevitable message to the leader of the League Matteo Salvini, regarding the statements on the vaccine for under-40s. Burioni responds: “Whoever says that people under 40 shouldn’t get vaccinated is endangering Italians, their health, their jobs, their freedom. Salvini, don’t take on this senseless battle, it would be a shame”.
